Welcome...
I am so excited to be joining the Fine Arts team at West Millbrook Magnet Middle School this year! I have taught Visual Arts for the past 18 years at Sanderson High School. I am excited to bring my Spartan experience to the Wildcat community.
I believe that every person has the ability to create! I find that Art is a way to build confidence, community, and self esteem. An open mind and willingness to take risks is the most important trait to becoming a successful art student. We will continuously reflect on what went well, what we would change, and what we could do differently next time. These traits will help students in all aspects of their learning.
My course material will be posted on Canvas throughout the year. I will update material here as we work our way through this school year (thank you for your patience!). In the meantime, here are some general items to review to get you started for your new class!
Supply list:

Expectations
Everyone who walks through my classroom door is an equal part of our Art community. We show RESPECT to ourselves and others by cleaning shared work spaces, using encouraging and positive words towards one another, and listening to the needs of our peers and teacher. We are open minded and risk takers, willing to try something new. Students are expected to arrive to class on time, prepared with your materials, and ready for instruction and creation. Clean up after yourself and respect the art room and materials in it so we can all enjoy this beautiful new space!
Copyright Infringement and Plagiarism
All Artworks are expected to be creative and original, which means they express something about yourself or how you feel about a subject. Art is not about how well you can copy a cartoon/clip art or duplicate another person’s anime drawing or personal photograph. We will learn about avoiding plagiarism by working from observation, drawing inspiration from the world around us, using our own photographs, and making unique creative choices while creating our original artworks.
Students will learn to appreciate the work an illustrator, animator, designer, and photographer create that bring us inspiration. We may be inspired and still avoid copying another artists' work directly.
